I Know the Secret…

We know it together...
We shared a secret moment today when Keona was playing with his friends and he could suddenly get somewhere he hadn’t been able to get before. And we looked at each other knowing he had grown at least another inch and gotten just a little stronger to pull himself up there. While his friends weren’t impressed, I was and I’m glad I saw that look and was able to catch it on camera….and now I have it.
Kalani is 3…
and he is very excited about 3. Lately he just seems to be a bundle of never ending energy and discovery. Every day he seems to jump higher, run faster, and build more track. His opinions are stronger and never ending. Although he tries hard to keep up with his brother, I see a quiet and persistent independence in him. My favorite thing is that I can see him thinking and turning things over and over in his mind. It usually happens in the middle of mayhem, when the littlest angel is often ignored. And suddenly when you notice his silence you can turn around and he has built the track that he wanted or invented his own version of whatever it is he wanted done. He looks at you with that big smile and says in shock and surprise, “I did it!” I love three; it really is fun to watch. I just wish he’d get that thoughtful about using the potty. It is getting close though, I can almost smell it — or not.

You just can't beat that "I did it myself" smile!
I was there…….
Today I was cuddled up in the Big Yellow Story Chair with Keona and HE was reading TO ME. And I relished the moment. He’s been enthusiastically doing it all week , which is a switch. This is the week it clicked. Though I can’t take credit for it, I am so glad that I was there. I don’t claim that what happened at home was any better academically than what could have happened in a classroom, but I am thrilled that I was there, instead of a teacher and that I get to see the excitement on my son’s face everytime he figures out a new word on his own. I like it that we get to cuddle and do the happy dance and recognize that it is a GREAT MOMENT. I’m glad that his little brother is there to see it too and gets just as excited as we do.

This is the happiest happy dance!
This is homeschooling at its best.
